The “Silent” Code

To preserve Immersion wherever possible the silent code will be used to impart information that couldn't otherwise be transferred without speaking. But if clarity or safety is needed, ignore all of this.

Whistle, “Hold”
Storytellers will "freeze" game with a call of “HOLD” or a whistle (either with an instrument or from their mouth.) Players may sit down while waiting, but otherwise expect that action is completely frozen in place. This is used to handle injuries, weapon and wardrobe malfunction or disputes. Preferably the freeze should only last a matter of moments before being resolved. In the event that a player needs to have a freeze but cannot Whistle or does not have a whistle they may yell "Hold!" The storyteller and everyone around to should reinforce this by repeating the "Hold" called. The Storyteller releases the freeze when the problem is resolved by calling out "Hold off in 3, 2, 1.” Please note, that as this is the most jarring disruption of game, it should only be used when necessary.

Medical Sash
A Red and White striped sash, arm band or head band is worn by someone who has a medical reason to be completely non-combatant. Do not, under any circumstances engage them in combat. These sashes are usually for temporary reasons. However, they can also be used in conjunction with Incorporeal to alert other players of their medical danger.

BLACK!
In Stage language, a person dressed in all simple black clothes is invisible. This is also true for this game. Staff members will be in plain black T shirts, sweatshirts, pants, skirts or kilts, or black printed Staff shirts and are therefore "invisible" and Out Of Game. Please ignore these "men behind the curtains." Black tape may also be placed on an object to note that it is Out of Game. Please ignore these.
* Characters with invisibility spells will be required to use a black veil that they wear when invisible.

White
A Character wearing white is Incorporeal. This means the character is visible and can be heard and but cannot affect the world and cannot be physically attacked. They are ghostly and float slightly. They may NOT pass-through walls or solid objects. Incorporeal Characters will most likely wear all white with a white veil, but colors are allowed, although they should be kept minimal and secondary.
White tape may also be placed on an item to denote that it is Incorporeal.
* Characters with spells that make them temporarily Incorporeal will be required to use a white veil that they wear when incorporeal and should wear other colors on their normal costume.

Badges
On site Staff members may wear a Badge that displays their Role on the grounds, such as “Game Master,” “Storyteller,” or “NPC.” Any player concerns or problems can be brought to any staff member if needed.

Safety Check
Other Players, Staff or Storytellers will sometimes throw a thumbs up at someone with a questioning face. The question is “Are you alright with this?” Responding with a Thumbs up means “All is good!” a Thumb or Hand sideways means “I’m walking the line of my limit, please don’t push beyond,” and a thumbs down will result in an immediate Hold to discuss what the problem is and likely end the situation. This is usually used for uncomfortable role plays, to make sure that they character’s responses are not the player’s responses as well. Please remember that if you are hurt, uncomfortable or feel unsafe that you may always call a Hold. But if the interaction has made your character cry, and you the player are moved to tears as well, but are enjoying the drama, please give a Thumbs up!

ALL GOOD AT LIMIT NO GOOD

ALL GOOD

Out of Character
Place your hand on top of your head in a fist. Generally used to pass through an area but may be used to impart information that cannot be seen, or to clarify. Please use sparingly within In Game areas

Unconscious Pose
Lay or sit down with a weapon or arm over your head. If you are in the way of combat, or in an unsafe location, pleas move just out of the way, but only as much as is needed for your safety.

Death Pose
Hold one or both arms crossed across your chest. Lay or sit down if you can. If you are in the way of combat, please move just out of the way, but only as much as is needed for your safety. If a healer comes over to you and says “Medical check,” please answer them with how much damage, the type of damage you’ve been hit with if relevant, and if you are missing any limbs.

Foreign Language
This signal is made by placing an “L” with your fingers near head. This means that the character is speaking in a language other than common. If a character only speaks in some different language the player may use an “L” charm, hung on their forehead, drawn on with makeup or even on a sticker, to save use of their arm! Creativity is encouraged, but long-term solutions should be discussed with a Storyteller. Please be aware that this will limit your interactions if there is a frequent Language gap and it may be a hinderance to you and other players. Language use should be fun and add flavor, not be a chore.

Stealth
Place fingers over your mouth and jaw indicated the number of Stealth Skill. Close fist indicates 5, closed hand and 1 finger raise is 6 and so on. Open hand is 10. If further than ten is needed, than a quick out of character check and call may be needed. If the character “Seeking” the character in Stealth has a higher Perception Attribute, they can see through the Stealth. If the Traits are tied, then perform a check. This can also be used for Invisibility if they player doesn’t have a black veil.
