Storytellers!
Storytellers will act as the Narrator, framing the character's stories and describing what is In Game but can't be seen, like the passage of time, wounds, scents, feelings, 6th senses, ect. They are the referee in conflicts and NPCs that aren't presented by another staff member or are not currently present. They direct Quests, the creatures met, and opponents fought. They are also responsible for refereeing the adventure field as necessary and guiding players through the rules. They present and move the Story of the game. They may be divided into more specific roles if the game is large enough.
Positions Below will not touch Plot and therefore can be players as well as staff!
Player Liaison
This person is responsible for being a middleman between players with problems who may not feel they are able to speak up, and the Game Master/Storytellers. They should also be looking for problems that need to be solved and always available to help players understand the rules. They MUST be a Player themselves.
Happy Helper
Game Master assistant! Aids in several duties including helping the Game master with set up and take down, and other logistical things. Helps make sure the Game Master has everything they need and assisting other positions in their jobs if they need it. Absolute lynch pin of versatility.
Crunchy Number Cryptid
Game Master assistant! Responsible for aiding the Game Master and Storyteller with number related problems. Such as making sure that the game mechanics are balanced and helping with Experience Point expenditures and character sheet upkeep.
Range Master
Responsible for the rules for the Nerf Blasters as well as assuring nerf blaster safety and that our game is up to legal standards on Nerf Blasters.
NPCS
Stands for "Non-Player Character." These are all the other characters needed to complete the story, monsters and enemies, the butcher, the baker and the candle stick maker.
Shifts!
NPC Shifts are listed on a poster in the Storyteller tent. At sign in, all players sign up for their NPC shifts. They are first come first serve until the minimums are met, then players may choose whatever shift they like. Storyteller or the Game Master may set higher or lower minimums for shifts as needed. There may be incentives listed for taking more than the minimum number shifts, such as free meals.
Types of NPCs
- General NPCs
Villagers, monsters, the Innominatam and other things the players encounter. May be played by NPC Staff or Players on an NPC shift. Some may be upgraded to Character NPC if the story calls for it. At the whim of pretty much the entire Storytelling staff, depending on whose domain they are in.
- Character NPCs
They are played by an NPC staff member and will usually remain the same character the entire session (unless killed or otherwise no longer necessary.) They are directed by the Storyteller over the Area the Character was created for. They are generally important or dangerous and should have as much story invested in them as the player characters. Often their "Player" knows some of the Storyteller secrets.
-Storyteller NPCs
Generally either Character NPCs whose player happens to be elsewhere at the current moment, or NPCs that are irrelevant other than the current moment that the Storyteller need them. (Or really, any character the Storyteller needs that isn't present.) The Storyteller takes on that character for that moment. Heavy use of them is discouraged, but they are a convenient way to quickly handle a Player Character needing to talk with a black smith when none are currently being played (but obviously there would be one in town!)
Needed for an NPC Shift
Please report to the Laboratory at the appropriate time. Please show up in very basic garb, such as a tunic and pants, kilt or skirt, but not anything identifiable or unique to your character if it can be avoided. If you do not have some sort of “base” that is appropriate, let a Storyteller know when you sign up for your NPC shifts, and they will make sure the Laboratory is prepared to lend you something. In this case please show up in as neutral of clothes as possible, in case the lent clothes do not fit properly. Generally, the Storyteller will tell you if there is anything else you need to bring. Weapons, props, costume items, loot pouches and loot will be provided in the Laboratory. You may be asked to wear a mask or make up. Please indicate if you have any latex or make up allergies.
If you cannot make your shift, please let a Storyteller know as soon as possible.
WHEN we get bigger, we’ll add
-Quest Storyteller
Has a written-out Quest that they are guiding a group of Players through. Is completely in control of the group and everything they encounter. In charge of the Quest NPCs as well.
- Adventure Storyteller
No particular quest or Story. They are in charge of refereeing interactions on the adventure field. They are not in charge of the Adventure NPC's creation, but their ruling on combat and interactions is still final for the NPCs too.
- Town Storyteller
As with the Adventure Storytellers, but in Town. They generally shouldn't have to deal with much combat though, since it's forbidden in town.
- Guide Storyteller
This Storyteller takes new players through their first event, constantly by their side while IN Game. They explain the rules, how the world works and takes them on their First Quest. Often this is the Player Liaison.
Rules Marshals
Also Called Rules Lawyers. These are players who have been approved by staff to have a great handle on the rules. If there is a minor dispute and no Storyteller available, or a Marshal notices a player who is not using a rule, they may correct the problem. If the dispute is not easily settled, they should get a Storyteller. They should also be on the lookout for problems with rules and rule application. Rules Marshals who misuse this status may be reported to any other member of staff.
NPC Coordinator
Storyteller who is Charge of the creation of all NPCS. They are in charge of the "Laboratory" (the Costume Department,) where they are responsible for dressing and makeup, arming, stats and loot of all NPCs. They are also responsible for the Adventure Field NPCs and the Quest NPCs, usually with the Quest Storyteller.
Prop Maker
Works under the NPC Coordinator creating, caring for and keeping track of all the physical pieces of props. Where they are, what shape they are in and what needs to be replaced, etc. They build and decorate sets at the Direction of the Game Master and the Quest Sets at direction of the Quest Storytellers.
Monster Maker
Works under the NPC Coordinator creating, caring for and keeping track of all the costumes and looks of the NPCS. Where they are, what shape they are in and what needs to be replaced, etc. They help with the physical dressing, effects and makeup of the NPCs.
